Electricity and gas that avoids the use of animals or animal by-products — for businesses that care about ethics and sustainability.
What is Vegan Energy?
Vegan energy is the production of electricity or gas that doesn’t involve the use of animals or animal by-products. In the UK, many traditional green energy sources such as anaerobic digestion (AD) and biomass may still contain animal by-products like livestock waste, slaughterhouse residues, or fish parts.
Vegan vs Green Energy
Green energy is produced using renewable sources such as solar, wind, wave, and tidal power, instead of fossil fuels. However, not all green energy is vegan — some suppliers still use animals or animal by-products in their generation processes.
Is Your Energy Supplier Vegan?
Four of the Big Six energy companies, along with many independent and green energy suppliers, include animal by-products in their supply chains. Less than 1% of energy is fully vegan-friendly, yet this affects almost 60% of the UK.
